In collaboration with the Dallas Arts District and Nasher Sculpture Center for the second annual PRIDE BLOCK PARTY, the Dallas Museum of Art presents a special Late Night in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month! Join us for pride-themed tours, performances, story time, movies, local artists, food trucks, makers and artisans, drag shows, runways, outdoor activities, and more! Don’t miss this lively intersection of arts, culture, and LGBTQ+ community pride!

DMA SCHEDULE:

Special Performance: Faces of Dallas
6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Atrium
Join Verdigris Ensemble in honoring and exploring the history of the Dallas LGBT community through the life and activism of Patti Fink. Featuring original music with text taken from interviews of Patti Fink and the people of Dallas.


Late Night Creations with DMA Teen Advisory Council and Youth First
6:00 – 10:00 p.m., Art Studio, Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Stop by for a hands-on art making activity led by the DMA Teen Advisory Council and Youth First.

DMA Member Bar
6:00-11:00 p.m., Atrium
Use your DMA Members wristband to gain access to an exclusive area just for members. Selection of wine, domestic beer, and cocktails available for purchase at discounted prices for DMA Members only.

Ceremonial Bar
6:00-11:00 p.m., Outside Flora Street Entrance
Quench your thirst during the Block Party with an ice cold beer or glass of wine available for purchase at our bar outside the Flora Street Entrance. Don’t forget, DMA Members get discounts on selected drinks!

Tour: Old Kingdom, Old Way
6:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m., Level 3, Egyptian Art
Join DMA Manager of Docent and Teacher Programs Lindsay O’Connor and J Rock Ebony Dupree of United Black Ellument (U-BE) for a drop-in tour exploring the connections between Egyptian art and voguing.

Drag Queen Story Hour with Cassie Nova
6:30 p.m., C3 Theater
Drag Queen Story Hour captures the imagination of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. Join Cassie Nova for a story time featuring a selection of children’s books that celebrate difference, embrace diversity, and build empathy.

Special Performance: Judy Garland
7:00 p.m., Horchow Auditorium
Celebrate National Pride Month with a look back at the life and legacy of Judy Garland, brought to life by actor Janelle Lutz with pianist Adam Wright. Part history, part performance, this musical play examines Garland's impact on the Gay Liberation movement and her role as one of the first music icons for the LGBTQ+ community.

Performance in the Galleries: Breaking the Binary: A Bisexual Millennial Confessional
7:00 p.m., Level 2 Landing & 9:00 p.m., Level 4 Landing
This performance is part of Flexible Grey Theatre Company’s interview play anthology, Breaking the Binary. It is a sincere and comical glance into what it means to be bisexual and pansexual. Three actors tell stories through monologues and spill the tea on bi stereotypes, love, sex, and the importance of visibility within the queer community.

Pop-Up Art Spot
7:00-9:30 p.m., Level 1, Jonas Wood exhibition
Looking for a hands-on experience in the DMA galleries? Visit the Pop-Up Art Spot in the Jonas Wood exhibition and experience art in a new way. Explore sensory activities related to touch and scent, as well a composition portraiture activity, all inspired by nearby works of art. All ages welcome.

Tour: Beyond Binaries
7:30 p.m., 4th Floor American Art
Join Fred Holston for a drop-in tour about the painting Portrait of a Lady, Possibly Edward Hyde, Lord Cornbury in a Dress from the DMA’s American Art Collection.

Film: Transpose Extended
7:30 p.m., C3 Theater
A follow up to the 2017 film Transpose Arttitude's new film Transpose Extended features interviews with transgender individuals and their families to bring awareness to the challenges faced by people who are transitioning. With a special introduction by Arttitude Board Member Krista De La Rosa. This film is not rated (2018, 103 minutes).

DMA Members can go on this exclusive tour of artworks in our permanent collection. Space is limited to the first 25 attendees.

Late Night Main Stage featuring Rose Room @ S4 Cast
8:00-8:45 p.m., Atrium
The Rose Room cast will perform a unique and fantastic show created just for the DMA! The Rose Room Theatre and Lounge is the Southwest’s premier show bar for gender illusion located upstairs at Station 4.

Late Night Talk: Fabulous: The Rise of the Beautiful Eccentric
8:30 p.m., Horchow Auditorium
Dr. madison moore, cultural critic, DJ, and Assistant professor of Queer Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, will speak about his new book Fabulous: The Rise of the Beautiful Eccentric. Part autobiography, part cultural analysis, Fabulous looks to the ballroom culture, nightclubs, and street style to ask what it means to be fabulous and how eccentricity can be a political gesture for marginalized communities.

Join actress Janelle Lutz in the galleries a she performs a selection of Judy Garland’s most iconic songs accompanied by pianist Adam Wright.

Late Night Talk: Trancestor Artists: A Look at Art Beyond the Binaries
9:30 p.m., Horchow Auditorium
Join Gretchen and Leigh, hosts of the podcast History is Gay for a special live show at the DMA exploring gender-fluid art and artists from antiquity to present.

Film: "Raid of the Rainbow Lounge": The Documentary
9:30 p.m., C3 Theater
Forty years to the day after the raid of the Stonewall Inn, Fort Worth gay bar the Rainbow Lounge was the site of a controversial raid by law enforcement. Raid of the Rainbow Lounge examines the aftermath of the raid and how the event set into motion a movement that would make Fort Worth, Texas a leader in LGBT equality. With a special introduction and Q&A with the film’s director Robert Camina. This film is not rated (2009, 103 minutes).

Watch a unique and amazing display of dancing that features vogue and other elements from the mainstream ballroom scene.
