Public Hearing - Deck Plaza

The purpose of the public hearing is to present the planned improvements and to solicit public comment on the proposed construction of a deck plaza over the mainlanes of I-35 east from Marsalis Avenue to Ewing Avenue in Dallas County, Texas

Open House: 6 p.m.
Presentation: 7 p.m.

The City of Dallas, in conjunction with TxDOT, is proposing to construct a deck plaza over I-35E from Marsalis Avenue to Ewing Avenue in Dallas County, Texas. The proposed project would consist of constructing a deck within TxDOT right of way, above the I-35E mainlanes from Marsalis Avenue to Ewing Avenue, for a distance of approximately 0.2 mile. The deck would be constructed to ultimately create an approximate 5.5-acre urban deck plaza, sponsored by the City of Dallas. The deck itself would be constructed at the same level as the existing southbound I-35E frontage roads to provide access to the deck plaza from the frontage roads. Depending on funding, the proposed project may be constructed in phases. The construction of the deck plaza would allow the City of Dallas the opportunity to create various amenities, such as parallel parking along the frontage roads, and pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to existing development on Jefferson Boulevard, nearby schools, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit station and the Dallas Zoo.

Special accommodations: TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The hearing will be conducted in English. Persons interested in attending the hearing who have special communication or accommodation needs, such as the need for an interpreter, are encouraged to contact the TxDOT Dallas District Public Information Office at (214) 320-4480. Requests should be made at least two days prior to the hearing. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these needs. Please be aware that advance notice is requested as some accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.

The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being or have been carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 16, 2014, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and TxDOT.
